Life Drawing from Draw-o-thon

A small selection from the 8 hours I spent at Pratt doing life drawing. What an amazing event!! Two floors of life drawing, rooms FILLED with people, young and old, scattered around nude models intently capturing their likenesses, a drum circle, and some kind of crazy energy that you only feel at 3am after drawing the human form for eight hours. I was in desperate need of practice of drawing the human form. I think I'm cured!!

Portrait of my Abuela - Bela Kusznir

Finally finished a portrait of my late grandmother. Bela Kusznir was born in Kiev in 1918. When she was only 10 or so she escaped the Bolshevik Revolution in the Ukraine and Russia by traveling with her mother, father, and brother on a ship to Argentina. Later she became a pharmacist and had her own pharmacy in the neighborhood of San Isidro, Buenos Aires. Beba was the most amazing story teller. She had a beautiful collection of plants on her balcony that she cared for. She was a wonderful and strong woman. I miss her, but she will always remain in my heart and in my life.

AMERICAN BEAR - the film

Just finished the illustration and design for my friend Sarah's film AMERICAN BEAR , which is a documentary about her and her boyfriend going on a road trip across the United States and relying on the kindness of strangers for a home each night. They set off on their travels and film shooting this summer! A very exciting adventure. I can't wait to see the film!

I shall be doing more of AMERICAN BEAR's promotional material, including temporary tattoos!!!

Holiday Sale at The Gallery at Black Rock

The Gallery at Black Rock is hosting a holiday sale with some of my prints, cards, magnets and others. That's right, I CUT THOSE Jerk MATS!!! It was a large project, one that involved getting mad at Dick Blick twice, talking to myself in the street, carrying things bigger than me, using the special service door in the subway, and being heckled in China Town. I even had an intern help me! All with no cellphone and a ridiculous amount of time in one train or another mind you.

Got out my sewing machine and finished it up with some fabric on the back and the official belt loops. After maybe...two years? Ha. Don't think I'll be making these for production to sell, but maybe a less time consuming belt.

Travels to Boston

I just got back from Boston where I visited my very best friend Mr. Nathan Mondragon. He's been doing a really amazing installation project with painting, photography, and performance, all documenting of his life and his painting process.
I met some of his friends, all part of a young art community in Boston. Kids living together, sharing homes, studio spaces, and their lives.

I also took a walk around JP neighborhood where there are some fancy historical homes. Quite nice.

Mr. Nathan Mondragon is showing this work at the Jamacia Plain Art Market. It's worth a visit if you are in the Boston area.

My dad made a plate out of clay and put the Alligator Soul logo on it! He had to repaint it because it was covered in white glaze instead of clear glaze in the process. Such hard work!
